Notes: The manga by Niito is Niito's spin-off manga that is connected to Mayo Chiki! It has no relation to Mayo Chiki! The manga by Niito was serialized in Comic Alive, it is the first chapter in the story.
Plot: Mayo Chiki! starts out as a sort of comedy. It's about Okabe, a butler in a large family, who is adopted by the family. He is constantly getting in trouble and eventually is the cause of some trouble. He slowly starts to find out that the family is in danger, and it takes him awhile to find out what's going on. It's a very funny and light novel about a bumbling butler trying to solve everything.
Review: In Mayo Chiki!, the main character, the stray butler to the large family, Okabe, is found by his master's wife and adopted into the family. But, the entire family is suddenly kidnapped by a psychopath, and Okabe has to save them. While the first two volumes are mostly lighthearted and funny, the plot thickens in the last two volumes, and the tone takes a turn for the worse. While the story moves slowly at times, the visuals are very good, and the family dynamics are really portrayed nicely.
However, the last two volumes of the novel are the darker ones. The family's kidnapper turns out to be none other than Okabe's former employer. Okabe now has to save the entire family, and the kidnapper's motive. Throughout the entire series, Okabe learns more about himself and his emotions, and this is something that I enjoy so much about this novel.
