After version 5.87, the visual quality of the old Allstars was faded with the introduction of vertical scrollbars and the strain on the older machine. On Aug 2, IceFrog released a patch 5.88 after an additional week of pre-testing. Changes included map reworks like Snake Crevice, R_7_1 (a Star Street remake with glass stairs), and the bamboo temple arcade. On August 3, IceFrog released a patch 5.89, where the final version of Defense of the Ancients was released (feature wise, all of it is basically the map improvements that were introduced 5.87).
Version 6.00 was released on Oct 12, and the mod went on to be one of the top selling DOTA 2 map downloads. As a matter of fact, it is the highest selling map ever. Several technical improvements were made to the mod as a result of its success, including the introduction of the visual settings file and updated textures.

In February, the Evil Genius division was added, and the short ladder time period initiated. In March, Sniper became the only hero that didn't have his hero name reflect his name in-game (Hero name: Death Sniper, in-game name: Doom Sniper), and the map went on to be one of the top 8 best sellers in Steam. Soon after his addition, the idea of 5.6 was started, and it reached beta on April 19, with a goal to meet the same schedule as Allstars. Finally, the period of 5.7 was initiated on June 19, and the final version of Allstars was released on July 19. 7211a4ac4a
